Service Description: The map shows thee inter-patch distance (in hectares) of European forest in 2018. The dataset shown is the result to apply the Euclidean Distance module of GuidosToolbox (GTB) on the forest pixels identified by the dataset HR Forest Type product at 100m spatial resolution. The FTY was converted to binary forest mask (forest/non-forest). The Euclidean tool measures the distance from the forest – non-forest boundary into both, the forest patches as well as non-forest areas. The raster value is a selection of the inter-patch distance (only the distance between patches are extracted from GTB tool).
The Euclidean Distance & HMC analysis scheme is available in the free JRC software GuidosToolbox. Further information is available in related product sheets available on the GuidosToolbox homepage. Vogt & Riitters (2017) and Soille & Vogt (2008).
